The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

As Aristar International School envisions to give quality education, this Australian framework was acquired to create an applicable curriculum to produce young individuals who embody the holistic aspects the school aspires them to have. This framework revolves around three concepts:

Belonging, Being, and Becoming

These pillars hold the roof of this framework which is Children’s Learning. It consists of three concepts: Principles, Practices, and Learning Outcomes. Together, they make the framework stand effective as a system for early education.

Belonging

This concept is the core of human existence. It is crucial for children to acquire a sense of belongingness to certain groups especially family, cultural groups, and a wider community. This defines their identities as they gradually make relationships. It is the foundation in shaping the individual and other individualistic possibilities.

Being

This concept recognizes the importance of childhood. It recognizes that children are creating concepts they explore in the present time and engaging in day-to-day sensory stimulants. As children learn to prepare for the future, they also create skills built for the present.

Becoming

This concept reflects the rapid and ever-changing circumstances of childhood. There are many factors that help children to learn and grow. This emphasizes children’s probable active participation in society.

A Framework for Action

As well as highlighting the big ideas of belonging, being and becoming the EYFS sets out five principles and eight practices that guide how we work. These guide our work with the framework. All are based on research about what makes early childhood education most effective. Together they give us some of the tools and ideas that we need to put the EYFS into action.

How they will be used will vary from one service to another. The EYFS is not about everyone doing the same thing. Each service will apply the principles and practices in their own way, to suit their own setting. What is important is that each of the principles and practices is evident, and that the way in which they are combined works for the children, families and educators of a particular
